KNOCK ON WOOD

«Said in order to avoid bad luck, either when you mention good luck that you have had in the past or when you mention hopes you have for the future.»

KNOCK ON WOOD

“Said in order to avoid bad luck, either when you mention good luck that you have had in the past or when you mention hopes you have for the future.”

L21 Gallery is participating in the first edition of Contemporary Art Now in Ibiza with the project entitled “Knock on Wood”, featuring the work of several artists represented by the gallery: Jordi Ribes (Barcelona, 1972), Valerie Krause, (1976, Herdecke, Germany, 1976), Fátima de Juan (Palma de Mallorca, 1984), Hunter Potter (Syracuse, NY, 1990) y Stevie Dix. (Genk, Belgium, 1990). The selection of works revolves around wood as the main material used or depicted by these artists, from the landscape photography and installation by Valerie Krause, to the large format paintings by Jordi Ribes, where his mysterious characters hide among the trees of an intense-coloured forest, along with the paintings by Hunter Potter, Fátima de Juan and Stevie Dix.

The title also refers to the symbolism of this material, with the famous English saying knock on wood to express the hope that good luck will continue.
